Social media like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter add a new dimension to media reports about modern terrorist, especially if they have access to the Internet. Raw data about the perpetrator(s) will be available to many people almost instantly without it being filtered by big media journalist and editors.
It will be more difficult for the big media and various governments to hide details about terror suspect. It won't take days or months to find information on the background and worldview of a terrorist. People will be able to just go to the suspect's facebook page and read it direct from there.
They can even see the suspect and event discussed by people who knew him on twitter, much as we saw with Jared Loughner.
