Obama and the politics of "what you can get away with."

See: VERNUCCIO: No time for advice and consent
In a press release, Sen. Michael B. Enzi, Wyoming Republican, ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee, stated, “The president has ignored the Senate’s confirmation and vetting process” by appointing Ms. Block and Mr. Griffin.

As Mr. Enzi rightly noted, the president’s submission of the nominations at the last minute made it impossible for the Senate even to begin its vetting process. The process includes a background check to see if the nominees’ taxes are paid, if they are facing any pending civil or criminal investigations and to ensure that they face no conflicts of interest.

For Obama and the Democrats, the constitution is a "flawed document" and means nothing. For them, all politics can be boiled down to "what you can get away with."

Obama and the Democrats think that at this time, they can get away with making "recess appointments" even if the congress is not in recess.

From this point forward, any-time that there are not people on the floor of both the house and senate, yammering away on something, future presidents will be able to declare congress to be in "recess" and appoint their people to office. The day or the hour won't matter. Weekends and holidays will become defacto recesses.

That is, if they are allowed to get away with this.

"Spike the Ball" Mr. President. It is important.

From: Obama: I won't release bin Laden death photos
In explaining his choice not to release the photo, Mr. Obama said that "we don't need to spike the football." He said that "given the graphic nature of these photos it would create a national security risk."

Uhm. . . yes you do Mr. President.

You need to show "the enemy" that you have contempt for him.

You need to show the world that we are not afraid of "the enemy."

You don't have to let "Islam" be the issue in this case. Osama was "the face" of Al Qaeda. Showing "the face" of Al Qaeda blasted half away with American bullets is a message that needs to be shown to the enemy and to the world.

Spike the damn ball!

Will Environmentalist Precipitate A Nuclear War?

It sounds like a crazy question – until you read this:

Small Nuclear War Could Reverse Global Warming for Years (February 22, 2011 – National Geographic News)

That is all that we need.

The world is on the freaking brink as it is without a bunch of eco-wackos thinking that a nice little nuclear war will turn the planet into a garden of eden.

Uhm . . .

Try and get this through your heads eco-wacko-dudes. Nuclear war is bad. Even small nuclear wars are bad. Really bad. You don't want one. not even an itty-bitty tiny-weensy one.

Nuclear war is bad even if some idiot scientists think it will help the environment, which it won't.

“Nah” you say? “Nobody would be so crazy as to think that something so extreme would be a good idea.”

From James Lee's Manifesto
“Saving the Planet means saving what's left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding anymore disgusting human babies!

Now imagine a James Lee out there, sitting down to a cup of caffe mocha in his favorite little coffee bar in some ordinary part of the world, reading an article in the National Geographic about how to reverse Global Warming. Think about more than one James Lee. Think about maybe one or two hundred such like minds. It doesn't have to be millions, or thousands, or really even hundreds of James Lees. It only requires a few determined minds with a goal and a mission from Gaia to save the planet.

A crazy lunatic Army of the Twelve Monkeys and a determined Dr. Peters could do some real harm.

Obama And The Politics Of Failure

An interesting question from the other side of the pond.

See: The great Obama-Axelrod-etc. mystery

Here's one of the big questions, really, one to chew on over the weekend, one that's asked a lot around this town. How could a bunch of people who ran such a brilliant campaign be doing such a lousy job at the politics of governing?

The answer is actually very simple.

Obama and his team have successfully rammed through a number of measures through the congress that would, and will, fundamentally change the nature of our government and our relationship with it.

Obama's plummeting popularity is a consequence of his political success.

Confusing President Obama's popularity with his political success is a mistake. He has been very successful. Obama is very unpopular now because of his political successes.

Compassionate Cannibalism and the End of Western Civilization

From the Seriously Not Funny files

See: Cannibal Restaurant Has Berliners Disgusted

"Donors wanted! Become a member today!" reads an announcement on the website. On the menu page, the restaurant, called Flimé, is careful only to indicate "meat" without giving away what kind -- surely an effort to keep the ruse going. Those who want to become members must submit a form complete with responses about health and exercise habits.

"After the medical check, you can decide which body part you want to donate!" the website says. The form tells prospective members that "Flimé only covers the costs for hospitalization.... The designated use of the donated body part is free to Flimé." The German version of the website is also advertising for a job opening for an "open-minded surgeon."

We are all living in the Wiemar Republic now.
